First time eating Jamaican food? Here's what to order

If you've never had Jamaican food, our menu can raise a few questions. What's rasta pasta? Is curry goat actually goat? How hot is jerk? This guide walks you through it.

If you want a safe first order

Curry chicken
Tender chicken in a Jamaican curry sauce with turmeric, thyme, and a little heat. Familiar and full of flavor.
Rasta pasta
Pasta in a creamy, seasoned sauce with colorful peppers, named for the red, gold, and green colors of Rastafari. Many guests add chicken.
Beef patty
A flaky golden pastry filled with seasoned ground beef. It's Jamaica's favorite grab-and-go snack, and a good starter.

If you want the classics

Jerk chicken
Jamaica's signature dish, marinated with pimento, scotch bonnet, thyme, and scallion. Smoky and spicy. Here's what makes it jerk.
Oxtail
Slow-cooked until the meat falls off the bone, in a rich brown gravy. This is the dish Jamaicans judge a restaurant by. How we make it.
Curry goat
Yes, it's goat. Slow cooking makes it tender, and the curry makes it approachable. The story behind it.

Sides

  • Rice and peas: rice cooked with red kidney beans and coconut milk. Why they're called peas.
  • Sweet plantains: fried ripe plantains, soft and caramelized. Great with anything spicy.
  • Steamed vegetables: seasoned cabbage and mixed vegetables, a Jamaican staple.

Drinks

  • Sorrel and ginger: tart hibiscus with a ginger kick.
  • Pineapple and ginger: sweet, sharp, and cold.
  • Soursop: creamy and tropical. What it tastes like.

Save room for dessert

Our rum cake and rum raisin bread pudding are made with rum. Ask us about current desserts.

Three tips from us

  1. Order one thing you know and one thing you don't.
  2. If you're sensitive to heat, tell us before you order. See our spice guide.
  3. Get plantains. Nobody regrets the plantains.
